PCWorld – Popular social networking site Twitter’s current top trending topic, or things that are twittered the most in a period of time has a security hole. What larger hole to patch then that of human error itself.

The “twitter porn names” among things to do with your friends and gives you something to tweet about is nothing more then a disguise to get users to publicly post answers to their online security questions.

The current game has a few variations you take the name of your first pet combine it with the street you grew up on or your mothers maiden name. All of these are common security questions to access your online accounts and bank information.

Be wary of this and other combinations of the game that might entice you to reveal potential answers to your security questions. Be sure to pass along the information to your friends if they have been unwittingly providing answers to their security questions.

If you have publicly revealed answers to your online security questions delete the post, change your passwords along with updating your security questions.

CNET – CoolIris for iPhone has just received a hot update…and we do mean hot. New on the list of features is the capability to turn Google’s SafeSearch on or off, which according to the company was one of the most requested features. The app remembers your preferences between sessions, giving you a wider gamut of results that can be, well, NSFW.

Why is this so important? If you’re familiar with Apple’s app store reviews process and guidelines you’ll know the company has been rather stringent. So much so, it won’t even let you view the personals section or naughty words in Craigslist apps. With the right search terms, the new version of this application can become a quick way to get at adult content. If that’s what you’re going for, that is.

To be fair, the update isn’t about making it an adult-oriented app. Rather, it’s to bring along some of the features found on its desktop counterpart. This update comes with a very mellow UI update that makes most of its preferences and features available no matter what you’re doing.

And just like in the desktop version, users are now able to bookmark any items or RSS feeds, as well as see those items they’ve bookmarked from their computers. To share any of that content with the outside world, there’s also a new “tweet this” option that will send whatever you’re looking at as a Twitter message.

This is still one of the best ways to search for images on the iPhone, and one of the most intuitive ways to use CoolIris since you can simply zoom around with your fingers, or by tilting your phone.

From XBIZ.com – LAS VEGAS — Naughty Tweet, parent company OF PornStarTweet.com, has announced the implementation of a “Verified Tweeter Award” for personalities, celebrities and performers listed on its network of sites.

The Verified Tweeter Award indicates that the identity of a person presented on the Naughty Tweet sites has been validated.

“The social networking world is plagued with spammers, identity thieves, cyber-squatters and weirdos posing as real stars,” Naughty Tweet Network Webmistress Alyss Heart said. “We track almost 300 porn stars alone on PornStarTweet and across our networks now there are more than 550 profiles.

“We do our best to monitor tweets, photos and videos to weed out the imposters but sometimes they’re difficult to spot, so we built the Verification Award.”

Verification requires a photo, video or personal appearance at an official Naughty Tweet event. Complete instructions can be found at the PornStarTweet website. The easy to recognize award badge will identify verified participants.

“To our knowledge this is the first time anyone has attempted this task,” Heart said. “Mercedes Ashley was our first victim in a video we shot at Adultcon in March, which you can see on our ‘How To’ page. We’re careful to say that just because we haven’t verified someone, that doesn’t mean the profile is not real. It’s simple and fun to get verified — so Tweet Your Ass Off.”

About 750 Twitter accounts were hacked last week and used to send tweet spam.

From the Twitter Blog:

Today we discovered about 750 Twitter accounts were broken into and had a link to a webcam site posted on the accounts. It appears other sites and services have been affected by a similar attack. We reset the passwords of the compromised accounts and removed the spammy updates. Our safety team is currently investigating the attack.

The hacked accounts had spammy links pointing to a porn webcam site.  Apparently Facebook was hit with a similar attack last month that was promoting the same webcam site.

Information Week contributor Thomas Claburn explains that the accounts could have been compromised by a dictionary attack:

A dictionary attack, as its name suggests, involves randomly trying every word in a dictionary file as a possible password. It’s for this reason that users are advised never to use single words in any language as a password.

Lesson: Don’t use single words as your password and change your passwords frequently.
